The Best Chicken Coops for Your Flock

Are you just starting out with backyard chickens? Or have you’ve been at it for a while and you have developed some “chicken math” issues, e.g., you just can’t get enough chickens (!).

You need to think about the right size coop for your flock. On the one hand you definitely don’t want to crowd your chickens-that will only lead to fights and bullying and other bad outcomes. On the other hand you don’t want to pay for square footage you’re not going to use.

We have looked at all the coops offered on Amazon’s and Tractor Supply’s websites. We have some recommendations that will save you time and aggravation in the long run.

Take a look at our small coop recommendations here, and our large coop recommendations here. Now some of you may be ready for a walk-in coop. I kind of like them. There’s no bending over, no banging your head, especially on winter mornings when you are not quite awake yet. See what we recommend for walk-in coops here.

Now, if you haven’t purchased your chickens yet and plan on raising baby chicks, you will need to set up a special area for them, preferably in your garage or other enclosed space. Make it easy on yourself and purchase one of the many chicken starter kits on the market, like this one.
